Carlos Guzman

Cuban painter born in 1970. His work seems to answer to a serious ontological problem, the one of imagining the running of the human mind, at a more profound level than the conscious feelings. He cannot be considered surrealist nor expressionist; or neo-historicist or post-medieval. In an original way, he uses the graphic resources of scientific illustration that he complements with his Homo Sapiens figurations, made in pen and lit with colours that remind us of the illuminated manuscripts. Besides that, yellow pages with ancient texts, mixed or juxtaposed in form of a collage, convert themselves in awkward illustrations of some kind of anthropology of the amazing. The artworks created by Guzman denote a certain craving for nobility, spiritual purification, expressed through the multitude of these portrayed mysterious beings, dedicated to rituals, transfusions, infiltrations, as if they distil their souls in stills in the style of the time machine.
